For what it's worth,after I read Mike's post I went back to the car and put the last I could on the end of the wrench(three-point puller also) then grabbed the loose end of the tie rod and twisted it out of the way so I could get a look at the position of the puller again and--BANG!! the part came free! There must have been a thousand pounds of torque loaded in to the tapered stud !
