One more question, does anybody know if the oringal wheels that came with the Speedster were chrome or silver?

I am also in the process of buying some new wheels since the chrome one that came with my CMC car are rusted. Can't decide if I want chrome or silver?

Your thoughs members? My car is silver and black. I am posting two pictures, one with silver wheels that I got from the SAW website and another one that I got off of eBay (my cmc look very much like this one).

Help!!! Can't decide.....

Hey Oscar,
I posted some pics of my car now that I'm just about done with all the cosmetic stuff. If you see then you'll notice I went with the old "color matched" option. Being that your car is silver you can go with standard re-pro VW Wheels and they'll match. I see these car as I would look at art, it's subjective. I see some cars and say WOW! And I see others and say "What are they thinking?". It all depends what your looking to do? To me chrome wheels look "flashy" which, because I prefer a more "vintage" look, don't do it for me. My goal was to create something that looked as if it was from that time period. My impression of the 356A Speedster is that is was a no nonsense sports car with little frills and few options. But as it's been said here many times - the great thing about these cars is that you can do anything you want!
Mickey,

Your car looks great! I can't wait to see how the seats turned out and the carpet project, post some picture when possible.

Also, I agree with you 100% with the classic look. I want my car as vintage as possible, therefore, 95% aiming at purchasing the gray stock wheels with regular stock moon caps.

Funny, today I took my wife to a real upscale mall here in Sherman Oaks, CA; some guy was yelling accross the the parking structure "Speedster, Speedster" I stopped and waited for him and he give me a business card so that he can take some pictures of my cars for a magazine, I could not believe it how much attention these little guys get, lol.

As an update on my CMC restoration project I've done the following:

1. New Nardi Wheel with Porsche Emblem
2. Side Moldings installed by Vintage Speedster
3. New Rear View Mirror
4. Half Quarter Tonneau

Still got alot more to do but I got to keep the restoration project at a slow pace due to wife and $$$, lol.

Oscar,

I had an original 56 Speedster years ago and it had silver painted wheels. As a matter of fact, I don't recall seeing any around with chrome until 1960 or 70. I suspect many owners simply had them updated with chrome or possibly dealers took it upon themselves to have them plated. Maybe someone on this sight can tell us if chrome was a factory option. I had the wheels on my current "fiberglass" Speedster powder coated and I like the original appearance. It also saves a lot of time on polishing.
