I have a passenger side rear tire that is wearing excessively on the inside of the tire. I took it to replace the tires and they said it needs an alignment.

Now for the bad part the alignment shop says that they don't really have a way to change the rear camber and since the drivers side tire is wearing normally that the rear control arm must be bent.

What do you guys think???? Is this common or do they just not know what they are doing? I have already sent an email to Henry, but thought I would get some background from you guys on whether this sounds likely or not.

The swing axle can be adjusted. The adjuster though should be done at a VW guy that knows what he is doing. The swing axle arm is spring loaded. I know because we did this to the Ghia. He can adjust the camber. Also there are camber compensator bars available for about $100.00 that can assist. This should also improve the handling.

As for the rear affecting a front, I assume it would be more of a toe in/out issue than camber. But come to think of it how the wheels sit the camber cam affect toe.
Get a second opinion from another shop, one that admits familiarity with IRS and not solid axles. If I may digress a bit: I had my local shop align a new Ford twin I-beam front axle (in 1774) using a hydraulic press to bend the axle arm. Scared the hell out of me at the time. 130,000 miles later I sold the truck and it never needed another alignment in between. That's why I keep going back there.
