This was just added to the FiberFab site -

http://www.fiberfab.us/dmvmap.html

It should answer some of the state specific issues in registering replicas.

An interesting note is that FF has started manufacturing the Avenger GT again --- i.e. the Valkaryie series. Cool!

If you look closely, the wording is identical for some states, which gives me the impression that this is a generic site. You still need to check with your local DMV as they don't always follow what is published. I'm having that problem right now in Hawaii. The site says it should be a street rod, but the DMV says it's a kit car and they won't register it. I'm now worming my way through a series of old-timers that know this person or that person yada yada yada. It will take longer but I'll end up with the answer I need. You're right, no two DMV employees have the same answer.
I checked the Illinois information, and it is correct. I assume that the similarities state to state are because SEMA wrote prototype legislation for states to use for replica vehicles. Various states (Illinois included) have enacted versions of this prototype, much to the benefit of our hobby.

With this legislation, there's not a good reason to risk the questionable legality of running a VW title, unless your state doesn't have the SEMA legislation on the books.

I think the link should be a sticky in the newbies section. Thanks for posting it.
