To Bung or Not to Bung, That is the Question

I ordered an A-1 Sidewinder exhaust with an oxygen sensor bung thinking someday I may want to hook up a wideband thing to it.

I don't know if I would really use the bung or not but I thought I would get it just in case.

It came without the bung.

Do you think it is worth sending it back to get the bung?

Mike, most anyone can weld in the threaded bung for a few bucks.

Having it welded in now would probably mess up the ceramic coating.

That's why if I decide I want the bung I think I should send it back to Tiger to exchange.

How important do you think it is to have the bung.

I am wondering about probes I have seen. Are they a good substitute for the bung?

If my old mind still works, I believe the bung is the same thread as a spark plug, of so you could just drill and use a thin jamb nut to secure it in place.

And how do you seal it? If it pulls in air around it it'll give you false lean readings.

Micheal, if I had a threaded hole in my sidewinder I would bent the crankcase to it.

Thread sealant, JB etc.

Michael---screw it. I have a high dollar AFR that I thought about mounting in my car so got my A-1 with a bung. Now I don't feel like I need it so I haven't installed it.

If it was Tiger's mistake, will he pay the shipping?

Your call but I guess I'd rather have it and not use it than later wish I had gotten it. I have read of ways on here or the Samba, to just stick the AFR senser up the bung for readings. But be gentle.

If you want to use an O2 sensor, get the bung. Weld it in- don't try Micky-Mousing it with JB weld, and jam nut, or duct-tape. That being said- it doesn't have to go in the header collector. Welding it into the exhaust tubing just after the collector works fine.

I have decided to send the piece back to Tiger to swap for one with a bung just in case some time in the future I want to use i.,

Some of the other options suggested are actually more trouble or expense.

If I get my car on the road before I get the thing back I can continue to use my old exhaust system.
