I am having a tonneau cover made for the interior of my 2002 VS and was wondering if anyone has seen or is using snaps or lift-a-dot fasteners on the doors of these cars or if the tonneau simply lies loose in this area? There are very few Speedys in my area to look at and I can't tell from the photos I've found on the Net.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Been driving my JPS (same body as Vintage) for eight years with only a tonneau cover. Never driven the car with top up - only with a tonneau. One snap at corner of dashboard, one snap on body behind the door, no snaps on door. After all these years, I have to admit some paint scuffing is just now starting to show at mid-point on the passenger door due to "tonneau-flapping". Nothing a bit of cleaner wax won't eliminate, but I am concerned about the long term effect. I try to keep a lot of wax on that area now.

Next time, yeah, a snap in the middle of the door would be inviting.

By the way, If you have a custom tonneau made, be sure to get it tucked generously into the windshield base. My "standard" full tonneau lacks at least about an inch of covering the whole dash at that point. Maybe it shrunk, but the snaps still fit fine?
Rich,
MUSBJIM pretty much told the story. I put a small strap located mid-door and in about 2 inches. It has a snap that matches the location of the inside snap for the side curtains. To attach you snap it first and then fasten the front. Reverse this to remove, of course. I found that it holds the tonneau down nicely and eliminates paint buffing. Also, it really cut down on the amount of "debris" that found its way in while I was trailering from Colorado to Pennsylvania (often at about 85 mph ... don't tell the gendarmes!!) This is a modification that I very much recommend to everyone as it is quick and easy and most upholstery shops will do it while you wait and charge you about $20.

I hope this helps.

Happy Trails,
Dusty
