I spent many hours recently upside down looking under my dash for wiring, relays and fuses.  While there I noticed, based upon the curvature, matching the windscreen, the bottom side of fastener studs for a tonneau cover. Yet above on the dash, no fasteners. I can not feel any tracing the dash?  Is it possible the PO re set the windscreen over the tops of these?  I'd like to get a cover, suggestions on how to proceed?

I wasn't very clear. What is there, on the underside of the fiberglass dash, is the bottom of the stud. Not a penetrable hole.

Mr. Wolfgang;

I cleaned my glasses and took a second look. Indeed as you described, what I am seeing are the pop-rivets for the windscreen framing. I would also agree with you, although not pleasant drilling holes from underneath, sounds better than removing the windscreen. Is there a preferred pattern for the dash snaps? Mind you I haven't even ordered a tonneau cover yet.  That will probably have to be a one off ($$$$)  as I have taller 914 seats?  Thanks for your help,  Art

I have a CMC full tonneau, but I also have the high back 914 seats.  I pulled the seats out, then installed the tonneau (I even drilled for the dash snaps from underneath the dash - it's not all that bad).  Once the tonneau fit the car, I put the seats back in and took the car and the tonneau to an auto upholsterer/convertible top guy and had him add pockets for the seat tops.  He did a terrific job, and the added pockets cost me about $100 bucks.  As I remember, he also added a couple of velcro-closing slits on the sides of the tonneau so I could get around the roll bar pipes, all included in the $100.

I would have to wander out there tok look at it, but I only have four snaps on the dash - two near the corner posts and two spaced about 2" left/right of the center rod.

It's not all that hard for a good upholsterer to do.

Good luck!
