When I did a test installation of my new top bows the lever on the driver's side wouldn't fold down. It hit the carpet when it was about horizontal.

I screwed in these threaded rods to compare the alignment on each side.

Originally the rod on the driver's side pointed down and to the back.

I broke the L-shaped threaded tube loose and attached the rod ends so things will be symmetrical. I will fiberglass it in the new position.
