Was thinking about a black plastic piece on the inside and the outside, sew the in by hand, cut holes to allow the buttons to be reinstalled and be done.
Any other ideas before I plan to start this?

Unless you want to get a new top, then yes, you need to sew in a patch and reinstall the grommet.

My thoughts exactly...same thing we did to the tops when I was doing boats.
But.... sew in some thin black plastic or same material on the inside and outside?
Thinking. . . . .
Thanks !
The patches I've seen were the same Haartz cloth top and bottom and at least 1.5" larger than the hole.
Looking at your top I'm guessing it is Haartz cloth?
Top looks like the standard older top material not Stay Fast . I good top guy can add in a piece and make it look like it belongs there, I had my top guy add 2-1/4 " to the front of a full tonneau, that came out perfect for $85.
Agree older vinyl - you can tell by the shinny plastic binding. Is that a top or tonneau?

I have a ton of boat places around here... was hoping to do it myself but I have so little time.

It looks great with the exception if these corners. Material does tell me it is older. This is the top, I have both.
Thinking it might be worth my time to have a new one made.
Thanks

If you have a bit repair shop nearby they may have Haartz cloth in stock and could easily make you a new one using your old one as a template.
@Robert M posted:That should have been “boat” repair not “bit” repair. I don’t know how you’d repair a bit other than just a little bit at a time.
Haahaahaahahaaa.... yeah man !!!!
One bit at a a time.
But I gotcha !!!
Thanks.
