Hey everyone! Just wanted to say hi. I have taken over ownership of a CMC Widebody from my father. He didn't have a ton of records, and it's been sitting in a barn for 5+ years. I'm not that mechanically inclined, but I'd like to do as much as I can. Looking forward to getting involved with the SOC forums. Should be an interesting project! ~P-Dub.

Welcome to the madness. You have found a great resource in the website. If you are looking to be the person doing the maintenance on your "P-Dub" one of your first purchases should be John Muir's book on keeping your volkswagen alive. It was invaluable to me as a novice and coupled with the vast knowledge base on this website, you will be well equipped to handle most of what your new acquisition may present. BTW, where are you located....oops, looks like Columbus, OH.
Yo P-Dub, I’m a 2 week old newbie and took ownership of CMC widebody from a family member. From your images it looks good and the wheel bolt pattern shoes it’s a 68 and later pan like mine. You indicate you are a cub mechanic. Hoss has recommended an excellent reference to build your ability and confidence. Also I hear comes the madness. Be careful!
Thanks for the welcome guys! I'm really excited to get started. I'm putting the seat belts in this weekend. Starting small.
Now Gentlemen, please do not get P-Dub all worked up over this years College Football season... He'll have his hands full with the new tub... thanks dad! My dad never gave me a tub, he gave me a Ford LTD that did not have any front-end.. I had to re-build it...LOL...

Geeze 32 years - guess my 26 year build is looking pretty good. But your choice of member has me a bit worried!

Greg,
Screename: Wolfgang.
Build time: 26 years (and growing).
Car: Black CMC widebody.

Gentlemen - That data is not trending in your favor.
You guys should start a club like the 'R Gruppe' guys did with their hopped up 911's. In order to qualify, you need to have the 'wolf' in your screen name, a black widebody CMC, and 25+ years into the build.

Thanks Tom, Ill be of help if I can to your new project P-DUB just let me know
TRP - Mine is actually a classic (not wide body) --- they are far more complex to build. Mike McKelvey was our lead exhaulted Puba for years but he did finish his after 24 years and his is a red classic so we aren't that exclusive to only black CMCs. A local FL guy (Jim Anderson) is going on 18 years and his is a plum colored wide body. Who else is willing to come out of the closet (so to speak) on long build times?
We do have our own shirts though.

Oh that's right. I've seen photos of your car, being towed with a blue tarp on it.
All kidding aside - What's the hold up on the build?

Let's face it...part of the madness is, that whether you're driving it or not...your car is never really done, is it ?
What Al said X2. Kirk Duncan said a funny thing to me a 3-4 years ago as I was continuing to put more and more money into improving my VS than some of the houses I owned early in life---he said "why don't you just DRIVE the damned thing!?" quite a Hoot. Today it's totally sorted and I am finally taking Kirks advice.
Greg, mine took closer to 30 years so you have a ways to go to beat my time.

Yup. I suppose you're correct. It's still fun to jibe Wolfgang.

Liking those wheels. Sweet looking car. Here's a pic of my copy of the essential John Muir book. I can also highly recommend the BugMe video series, Volumes 1-5. http://www.bugmevideo.com/index.html
Good luck!
