That's it, Tebs!
Only downer is that this year they want you to wear swim trunks.

Enjoying Tahoe a few months early with the overly generous @majorkahuna. What a day! See you all in September!

Where are you guys? Im up here with Alexis and the kids. We are here through Friday. Headed to look at a car on Wednesday.
What are the hotel choices in Auburn for Thursday night?
There are a number of fine hotels/motels and B n B's in Auburn but I usually recommend the Holiday Inn Express. It's right off 80 and 49, it has a Max's Diner attached to it, it's right next door to In 'n Out and it's Teby approved! It's also where we meet up for the drive to Tahoe.
Start booking, people!
Here's the skinny:
Please instruct attendees to call 800.972.8558, select option 2 (Group Reservations). Please advise the group reservationist that you are calling in to make a reservation for the Speedster Owners Club Group , and the Group Code is GSOC17.
OR, attendees may book on-line at: http://bookings.ihotelier.com/...034&userType=GRP
Group rates:
$179.00 for standard rooms
The cancellation policy for individual reservations is 48 hours.
Please note, rates are nightly and exclude a 12% occupancy tax, $3 local TID tax, and a 7.5% Resort Fee. Fees are subject to change. Pet friendly rooms are an additional $40.00, plus taxes and fees per night.
Just tried the online booking thing. They do have our group code in their system.
But when I tried to book, it took me to a page that seemed to allow only a one night stay - no option to stay Friday AND Saturday nights.
This is probably because the web page knows who I am, that I'm a giant pain in the butt, and that everyone else will be a lot happier if I'm not around on Saturday night.
OK, I get that. But there's a chance the web page is confused and that normal people will get the same response I did, too.
Just saying.
OK, I was wrong (can you believe it?)
The online thingie works great. You just have to be smart enough to click on the 'dates of stay' tab before you do anything else. If you go to the next page before doing that, then you're committed to just one night and can't change how many nights you want to stay.
But I think the web page still knows I'm a giant pain in the butt.
We are booked at the Tahoe Retreat, Woo Hoo! Looking forward to cruising the awesome mountain roads around Lake Tahoe with our knucklehead SOC friends!
I am currently working toward a psychological resolution to making that drive. Jim has it much easier as he is 20 miles closer...
Rusty if you go east and come up 395 it is 20 miles closer. Actually if you examine the map you will find east is actually west if that makes it seem closer. Lake Tahoe is further west than LA.
Of course you will miss Terry's shindig on Thursday in that case.
We have a conflict in our schedule that now precludes us from going at the moment. A little bummed, to say the least.
If the wifey lets me go, I'll certainly make the drive. But I'm feeling like the CEO won't approve that PTO request...
...and it is Terry's shindig that I must catch so all bets are off for a 395 trip. Besides, there are long sections of the 395 that appear to be right outta this movie right here...
Just substitute the Explorer towing the Roadster, Donna, and me for the Suburban, Airstream, and family... you get the picture

It could happen.
Hell you only have to get to Victorville before it looks like that.
majorkahuna posted:Hell you only have to get to Victorville before it looks like that.
Yeah you know what I'm talking about don't you! There are sections where you just don't want to break down or stop for any reason even if you are well armed.
That is where "The People Under the Stairs" come from. CA has lot of places where there are not a lot of branches on the trees.

And that's why breaking down isn't a problem for me!
Dear tour d' Hoe group:
I had a hell of a time booking my room using my own name so I went with Terry Nuckles Jr. and got right in..
Now I can trash the room like a rock star and have my dad pick up the bill for the damages..!!!
Thanks in advance Dad (Terry)
your son
Tebs.......
Dang, if you're not right, Tebs!
I tried the 'Terry Nuckels, Jr' trick and got right in - so I switched to an Executive Lake View King Suite - with the deluxe slippers, fleece-trimmed bathrobes, and champagne welcome package.
Best part was when they asked, "Leave it on your credit card, Mr. Nuckels?"

IM hearing banjos in the distance...
If I was in SoCal (or Phoenix @Cory McCloskey!), I'd take 395 up through the Eastern Sierras. Unreal vistas.
Check out this feed for some of them: https://instagram.com/thinair911s
Nancy and I are booked! See you in Sept.
Vanessa and I are booked!
Hope you guys don't mind but I will post this at the Spyderclub site to see if any of them want to join as well
That would be great, Ricardo!
Looking forward to the gathering Thursday night before the big run. I like to get a head count at least the week before if possible?
thank you!

Okay, got an update from the hotel. Only 7 rooms are booked. Those who have are:
Jim & Ginny, Ricardo & Vanessa, Robert & Nancy, Teby, Mitch & Kathy, Ron & Karen and Andie and me.
@Will Hesch, @Ryan (formerly) in NorCal, @Troy Sloan, @Rick C., @Larry Bull, @Rusty S, what's up? Are you coming? I guaranteed 10 rooms based on interested parties so let's get moving! Cut off date is 8/15.
@Anthony needs a head count for the Thursday barbecue at his shop. Let's get with it, people!
I'm definitely in. But maybe not the hotel. Working it out with my wife and about where to store the young ones.
I'll probably be up for the barbacue on Thursday as well.
Also, have we planned the routes yet? I know a few roads...
Ryan, you may have to stay at the hotel.
At this time of year, most of the vineyards up there are booked solid.
@Ryan (formerly) in NorCal, you cheapskate! With all the money you won in SLO you can afford to stay at the hotel.

You guys are great. Laugh it up retirees. We've found the number of children we have is inversely proportional to the volunteers we get to watch them for weekends while my wife and I play.
If we can get the kids sorted, we'll join you in the hotel. I know better than to mention "hammock" to her. If not, I'll have to see how far my weekend privileges go.
Yeah, Andie and I spent the last month with our grandkids. You couldn't pay me enough to be a parent of young kids again!
Terry, I'm so sorry for speaking before thinking (Kathy says I do that all the time...).
We have only 300 km on the new engine, about 150 miles so we'd be silly to cruise all the way up to Tahoe on a new, unbroken-in engine.
I've been given a dose of reality from my better half so must decline this wonderful opportunity.
Send any penalties or other monetary obligations we may have incurred to Uncle Teby

You have 36 days until TDH. At 50 miles per day for 36 days that is 1800 miles you can/should put on WC. Change the oil somewhere in that timeframe then go.

I have a lot of trees that work for hammocks. Downside is the Bears will probably wake you up, we have real Mountain Lions, I charge $200 per night for the view.

Yes, Sally and I will be there, but Teby snores so loud that we are staying down the road a bit.
We will also be there for the pre-cruise bbq.
So seriously,Troy, you're not staying at the host hotel?
Made reservations today. I'm in for the BBQ also..
