I'm going on Saturday to Memphis to pick up the new project. It comes with the tow bar, but I'm not sure I trust that thing on a 10 hour drive home. I plan on taking an SUV with a single axle tow dolly on the back. Has anyone done this w/ a speedster? Is there anything special that I need to know? I've towed several cars in this manner before, but I'm worried about this one.

Any input you can offer would be great.

I towed my incomplete speedster from Florida to West Virgina behind a Jeep Cherokee using a VW tow bar. The only problems that I had was the tow bar hitting against the front apron of the speedster. Lined the tow bar with some padding and problem solved. Towed it back down to Florida from West Virgina behind Suburban with same tow bar. No problems what-so-ever on that 860+ mile trip.
Adam,

take a floor jack too and some stands(safety). When I loaded my speedy up on my tow dolly just a few weeks ago, the front was so low it would not drive up the two ramps. The bumper and bottom of the car hit the ramps. Once one the dolly, it towed like a dream.

VW tow bar will work fine. May hit a little when going through dips. But they are short and turning is difficult. I have used tow bars to flat tow for long and short trips. Nice thing is they fit in the tow rig when not needed.

We survived the trip back! Ended up getting a really good deal on the car. Now the real fun begins. Within the next couple days, I'll get pics of the car posted... and I'm sure with that I'll also have a list of parts that I'll be needing. The guy called me 2 hours into my trip to say he had started the car up, and broke a valve spring, so that will probably be the first project on the car. Originally the guy said the kit was FiberFab, but the assembly manual is actually CMC.
