Thought I would throw this out there that I would be interested in a part trade/full trade involving my Turbo Beetle - See it here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=480387

The beetle is one of the fastest street legal bugs in canada - everything works on it and it's a blast to drive, pick any car on the street and you WILL beat it line to line. It has clean BC registration.

I am looking for a roadster/speedster roller - don't need the engine or transmission but if the deal is right I will take them. As long as the car is straight, no major body work needed and the pan or frame is solid I am interested.

I am located in Surrey BC, Canada (near Vancouver) and would prefer a car as local as possible to save on shipping costs for both parties. A canadian car would be a bonus as well (duties and all to deal with for US cars)

Thanks for looking!

Thanks, it's a fun beetle thats for sure - I need something a little more wife friendly... I took her for a half hearted ride in my beetle at only 10PSI of boost and scared her pretty bad (or good depending on how you look at it) she isn't that keen to drive with me now... don't know why.....
Forgot to mention more pictures of the beetle can be found here: http://www.actop20.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=4&page=10

It was a pan off resto and has been through a few changes - High strung 1914 with IDA's then a few different versions of draw thru turbo's until I found the current combo which seems to be ideal.

This winter I was planning on building a 2387cc longblock to go with the current turbo system - can you say scary fast? I'd like to build that 2387 for a new tub.....
james - not to poopoo on your speedster idea but, have you really thought this thru? You say you want something more wife frendly, well let's compare. 1, speedsters are not safe, well.....as a beetle, 2. i hope she likes to be cold, wet, and have really really messy hair, 3. they are VERY unpractical.

That being said, they are a BLAST to drive, a bit hard to sort out properlly, and parts are semi hard to come by. I can only say this from expirence, because i have a 74 std beetle, and i had a speedy; here's a pic:

i Loved the car, but it became aparent that i really wanted my other dream car being this:

i had a 69 charger before too. Sold it when i got the speedy, that lasted about 7months, then the itch for the charger came back. So i found a 69 charger r/t, #'s match car, 51000 orig miles, true r/t car, all paper work, original bill of sale, ect...totally unmollested, mint, no rust at all, 440, 727, 8 3/4 suregrip, and lets just say i STOLE the car, sold the speedy AND put $ in the bank!!!

I could'nt sell the beetle, there's just something about it, had it for so long, built the whole car. The main issue i had with the speedy is that i could'nt take my wife and my daughter in the car for a ride at the same time. Speedy's are great if you have the other "toy" as well. Just something to think about since you've got a sweet bug, i'm planning a turbo for mine as well, i could'nt imagine why you would sell that bug?

martin
just to add, all i was trying to say was think this one thru, if you can , keep the bug and buy your speedy, see if it's really right for you as your only toy, and after the novelty wears off. After owning my speedy i realized that even when it was "warm" outside, driving the speedy was very cold, even with heat (stock boxes) and i think only a gas heater could give confortable heat in a speedy. I put the stock heat system in my bug and WOW, not a warm fart like in my speedy, but i can drive the car all winter with these mild winters we are having now. Plus I can go to the store and lock my car, leave it knowing it's secure, ect.....'

martin
Thanks for the insite Martin - I only want it as a hobby car and a fair weather driver and it will only get 250 or so HP so it won't be crazy fast....

What I mean by wife friendly is something that she would enjoy driving, she likes fast fun cars but doesn't care for my beetle as it is set to kill with the amount of power in it. I'm not afraid of sourcing parts, I am able to make things if I can't find them and had to do so with my beetle.

I have found a speedster locally for a very decent price and am going to see it on Sunday - I would need to sell my beetle to fund it as we are knee deep in house reno's right now and my wife has to have her jet tub in our on-suite :)
