i am not to familiar w/ the VS transmission setup so please bear w/ my ignorance.

I took my VS Speedster out this weekend and had an issue - the tranny is stuck in 4th gear and cannot change it. The shifter seems to be 'freely' moving - like it came loose (no H pattern) as if something had gotten disconnected.

What are some troubleshooting methods to determine what is wrong? I contemplated removing the 2 bolts holding the shifter down and taking a peek...

I was able to drive it home in 4th gear :)

Any help is appreciated.

Check to see if your shift coupler is still in place. Remove the cover under the rear "seat" area, and check to see if the coupler is still connected to the shift selector at the transmission nosecone. If it is still connected, remove the securing bolt, and turn the selector on the trans with your fingers. If the selector spins all the way around, you have a broken shift selector "hockey stick". The trans will have to be pulled and selector replaced.
