1st gear is good to get you off the line but that's about it. I'm not all that concerned about acceleration; my desire is to have better freeway drivability. If my tach is accurate, which I'm not too sure about. With 225/50-R15 tires I'm turning between 3800-4000 rpm (I have the typical Chinese bouncing tach) at 70 mph (assuming the speedo is close to accurate). I've considered changing to a 60 series tire to gain a little top end but ultimately, I think the gearing will need to be addressed if I'm going to gain any real top speed.
Rich - you are in the early stages of "the disease":

I need a litle more top end at relaxed RPMs - I'll get a higher rear end ratio - but then I'll have less aceleration - well, while the tranny is out - maybe I'll look at a 2332 - or even a turbo - and while I'm at it - . . .

It's called "the madness". It has diabolical effects on a persons soul (and his pocketbook and his family relations). Re-tuning the jets while your main squeeze holds the trouble light is NOT (legally) a night out together, or even a date.

Welcome to the brotherhood!
