Too much info for me, so I'm asking trusted SOCers for guidelines.

I've been using Loctite tread locker blue 442. I notice many others on Amazon, mostly I use it for nuts and bolts where there is vibration. Have used loctite red for exhaust.

Any opinions?

Thank you

Locktite Blue 242 (medium strength) if you want the fastener to stay tight but might want to semi-easily remove the nut or stud sometime in the future.  That's what I usually use on nuts.

Locktite Red (can't remember the number, but it's "high strength") if you still want to remove it but want to work pretty hard doing so.  That's what I use on studs to hold them in place against a stop-nut or similar Fastener and don't want them walking out when I remove the nut.  Hardly ever use "Red" on a nut - never felt I needed it.

I agree with Wolfgang, though......rust works better than anything.

BTW:  It used to be a hoot having the Locktite reps come in and talk with my mechanical designers.

After hearing about all of the different formulations of product and their intended uses they were always Gung-HO to use them everywhere.....until I reminded them that some poor field service guy might actually want to get things apart out in some data center in East Rhum-Boogie, somewhere down the road, so use the stuff sparingly.

Just to make sure that sunk in, I made damn sure that the designers were part of the first 5 service calls at customer sites.  THAT usually worked.
