I was thinking of buying a 26 ft diesel truck for my move to Ontario. I should be able to fit my speedy in there plus the stuff we want to take and there's a few on the market, used, for about $10-$15K. U-Haul wants about $5K to rent, plus they are gas trucks and therefore the fuel for 5,600 km trip will be more. Moving companies want about $15-$20K for our move so buying a truck seems to make sense...
That is until I checked with my insurance company who said my premium for liability alone, for one year, would be $10K. I was shocked! They said that it would have to be a commercial policy even though I would be using the truck for my own purposes.
Anyone have any thoughts or advice? I'd rather have something for the money than just hand it over to U-Haul or a mover.
