Trunk Interior

Well with the plans to go to Carlisle this year , I got the bug to try to finish off the car. Momentum was everything last weekend. Installed the carpet, made side panels and started on the tank cover. Cost of material from the local supply shop ... just under $100. Had to take a break to help build the Cub Scout pinewood derby cars for my son. Momentum is everything! Resistance is bad! Defending champion for two years straight!

Hey a Corpse badge would look mighty fine on the back of my Speedy!

Question, did you make a speedster pinewood car?

Was the pinewood car front or rear engined? (I think that means - where did you hide the weights to get it up to minimum?)

Mid engine- weight is 2/3 from the front. Dad's is the red one, Daughters- #53 and son's the silver one. The silver one is the one that counts.

I loved pinewood derbys. kids have outgrown it. I cut and mircopolished the axels under the cover of the wheels. I always plased as much of the extra weight as near the rear as I could, to get it up higher on the incline. I placed one front wheel much higher than the other three such that the car only ran on three wheels, reducing friction. Yes, we were VERY competitive. When the girl scouts decided to have a pinewood derby too, both my girls were at the top. The other dads were so mad, they accused of of cheating and everything else. truth is, we followed the letter of the rule books and did it with class. they just were not accustomed to the competitiveness of pw derby. and, I must say, our cars were so far ahead of that group that it was no wonder they thought we were cheating.

Joe: what materials did you use? It's hard to tell from the pictures. The trunk looks great!

Thomas, the base is trunk carpet (it doen't have backing) and the sides are made up of Lastex carbon fiber textured vinyl.I had to trash the idea of covering the tank with the aluminum vinyl. Way to difficult. When with the carpet route.

Trunk is finally completed. Decided to carpet the fuel tank. I lost patience in building the vinyl enclosure.

Try this link http://duboisfabrics.com The products name is Enduratex -carbon fiber. There are different colors available. Check in your area to see if a local upholstery supplier carries it. It may save you a few buck on shipping cost. You'll need the backing foam and the door panel black cardboard (low moisture) if you want the nice smooth finished look.

Mike , You're short 100 watts. Its a 600watt amp. I couldn't pass the stereo system deal up. Had to trade off some of my welding skills for it.
