Trunk seal, Question:

I just removed the Vintage Speedster seal,that I did have on it. Sence,I intend to retouch the paint on the lip of the trunk compartment. Now would be a good time to shop for a better seal rubber.That flat seal rubber is poor at best. If anyone has a better one installed. I need to know where it came from. HeeeLLLLPPPPPP!!!!

I though about getting a factory one from Klasse 356 ?

How about the engine compartment seal also?

George is quite right. Even a real 356 only had 4 `15mm flat round buttons .2 on each side of the opening lip. They are avalible at Klasse 356 or Stoddards.

Got a reply, from Jim at Klasse 356. He is going to send me a sample of the seal he uses.

It's a good idea NOT to use a sealing gasket around the rear decklid and body as this can significantly reduce air flow into the engine compartment. What's to seal? If you drive in the rain water will get in through the grill anyway.

Barry, a front seal rubber for what? The front engine tin in the firewall area?

TRUNK COMPARTMENT SEAL

For a front trunk seal you might check with Henry at IM. My IM has only been in the rain once, but it was a deluge with high winds and the trunk stayed dry.

Barry, Kirk uses new seals and they work great it is a small half dome, and cheap I think 19 dollars and get the new door seals that he uses.

Mine is a 2000 kit,
And I did not like the body seals.
When I turned it into a conv,D ,I didn,t like the factory conv.D top seals eather, so when I upgraded the top I used GM type softseals. They did pass my pressure washer test.
I am looking for a v shaped stock, 3/4 by 3/4 ,1/4 thick in softseal compound for the trunk lip.
I have seen it before, I just have't recalled where yeat!!I am thinking it was on a mid 50's or early 60's car.

believe it or not jc whitney stocks a full range of decent seals.
look in their catalog, they have a shadow diagram [side view] of
their different seals and will even send you a sample.

AND THE biggest find of the year, Has been McMaster-Karr.com their like a big candy store.That is where I got the fiberglass sheet to remake the trunk floor

I got one of my samples. The stock 356 rubber from Klasse 356 will work, but I still think softseal type will be better. Three more samples,are on their way.I have the highest hope for a 1965 to 76 Porsche trunk rubber.the picture of it looks perfect, and it is a softseal type. Time will tell.

Interesting development. It appears I can use any of the seals that, I have got samples of,Its now a case what I like best, and how easy,I want the lid to close .They all will fit Just fine. Should I allow the lid to be in tencenion and compress the rubber or should I use the thinner more flimsey rubber that folds easy????

I got lucky this evening. A friends son, who is about 4 ft,8 set down in the fuel tank hole, and with a trouble light in hand and tried all the samples in several places around the inside trunk,with the lid down The Klasse 356 hard rubber, and the studabaker soft seal rubber are the winners , So for me it will be the Chalice from the Palace,,URR soft seal, I getting old ,I actully remember that movie.
