Good morning SOC..

I have consumed a lot of information on here, on my quest of the installation of a turn signal. I just needed to confirm a few things.

I purchased a 1967 type 2 switch, because I liked the look, and the dimmer function. I believe that I need a 57-59 type 1 housing to mount this switch into, because of my (39mm) steering shaft housing being a larger diameter than the 67 type 2.

I know there are a few on here that have done this successfully, but I haven't heard anything back on a PM.

two questions.

*Am I looking for the correct housing?

*Can anyone confirm that the 57 type 1 housing will mount onto my 39mm housing

I would love any photos if you have this setup..

Thank you!

I used the same '67 bus switch.  To fit the switch on the larger diameter tube, I opened up the switch side housing with a drum sander and used an early Type 1 housing on the right side.

Before I did that I made a smaller diameter tube out of copper pipe. I still have that and will send it to you for the cost of shipping. I would include the chrome bits to hang it from the dash.

In either case, you will want to get the piece that runs along the tube from the switch to the cash to conceal the wires.

The switch won't fit in the left side of the Type 1 housing.

Great information. Thank you! I think that I can actually find the right side of the type 1 housing. This will at least get me going on the wiring while I search down that cap. Yours looks fantastic! What is the black adapter between that and your wheel. I have a momo wheel with a volante black adapter. But it doesn’t have that tapered to it.

I'm not certain, but the tapered steering wheel adapter looks to be a Grant(I have one also). The REALLY NICE billet aluminum piece is from Carey Hines at Beck.

In my case, the aluminum piece that fits the steering shaft splines didn't work. I think it was for the wrong year. But, I had a really trashed old 911 wheel that I cut the center out of which worked beautifully.

If you end up getting the billet wheel hub from Beck, they can advise you on what Grant adapter has what you need for what year steering shaft.

I like what Michael did and what you are doing as it more closely replicates what Porsche did. Mine is a different take using mid 60's switch, cutting off the VW stalk. I painted the turn signal housing hammertone silver to match the Grant piece.

There is a momentary switch in the end of the turn signal knob for dipping the headlights. Yes, it was a PIA to machine it and hide the switch. The wires go through the hollow stalk.
