I would have sugested upgrading it to the heavy duty N.A.P.A version they cost a bit more but are less likely to do what yours did.. A lose bulb will usally lead to this kind of a failure.

I had more problems with the rear VS tear drop lamps on mine than I cared to remember They were junk. Finally replaced the sockets with better brass units. and they have been fine ever sence. better check that again to make sure your bulbs are in good. or it will reacurr.
