Has anyone purchased a turnkey stroker from Bergmann VW? Opinions as opposed to CB or Chico? http://www.bergmannvw.net/dual_weber.htm

Bergmann has a 911 style cooling set up and throws in a bunch of "free" things like remote oil cooler w/fan, shipping crate, etc ( nothing is really free...) with a turnkey per their website. Component quality and longevity compared to others?
Opinions? I'm East coast so shipping cost comes into play, but i only want to do this once....

If you want to do it once, and you are East Coast, call Jake Raby at Aircooled Technology. If you and he get along(ie think you are the right kind of customer), you will get an absolute jewel that will kick butt and be driveable. Tell him I sent you, and make sure you know exactly what you're looking for when you call. You will not be disappointed. He loves type4s, but may do a type1 for you if you ask nice!
Although the 911 style fan shroud looks "cool" it really isn't. It doesn't provide the best of cooling for your engine, regardless of their advertisement or conversation. Bernie's engines aren't bad but they're not great. Personally, I'd go with CB, or GEM (NOT GEX) and definitely NOT Chico
ive got 1500 smile miles on a new bergmann 2387. no problems so far but time will tell. plenty of torque and HP. it really scoots on down the road. i am running 2 oil coolers both 72 plate, one has a fan and one doesnt. i rarely turn the fan as it runs right at 190 all the time and it gets warm here in sacratomato.
bergmann is a tuff nut to talk with, its his way or the hiway. i have a VS and his fan blade set up just cleared the rear trunk latch which had to be unbolted to slip it in. plenty of room on sides by intakes and easy to change plugs.
you can mail me with any further questions as alot of people dont think highly of bernie.
Doug,
I just went down this road (see the thread "I know, I know here we go with the engine things again"). I searched just about every VW forum I could find and read as much as I could about this. I'm not going to say what's right or wrong because it all depends on what you're looking for out of the engine. I ended up going with Pat at CB Performance because his engine fit my needs and budget. He was accessible and has done quite a few engines for replica speedsters. Feel free to call me if you have any questions or want my personal input from my recent experience. 302-388-1998
....Unless you're me!

What are you Lane, one of the Borg collective?

CB motors are perfectly fine. I went with Aircooled Technology cause Jake and I seemed to be on the same wavelength. I got exactly what I wanted, and am still very happy with it.
