At present running a pair of webbers 36idf's and been offered a pair of 40idf's for reasonable money. The question being would it be a worth while converting to bigger carbs. What would be the pro's + con's of this. Many thanks for your input

Used carbs can be a crap-shoot. New Webbers can be a crap-shoot as well. Are you mechanically reclined or doing your own work? If you get a good 'How-To' book you can probably overcome any challenge condition presents or surprises you with if you have mechanical skills...

I went from 34s to 40s on my 1776 Type1 years ago and it was worth the money I paid to buy 'em and have them installed.
Installing the manifolds, carbs and linkage are not really a problem (assuming no air leaks). Its messing with the jets and venturis that is frustrating and time consuming. I ended up with several extra sets of jets when I converted a 914 from FI to Weber carbs. I believe it actually ran better with the OEM fuel injection. Seems I always had a flat spot or cloughed jet with the Webers!
Richard,

Good Morning!

Dellorto's are not manufactured any more. 2 Barrel Kits are availiable but signgle barrel FRD Kits are non-existant. This information was recently provided by CB Performance as well as several other vendors I discussed this issue with.

I have discussed the New EMPI 2 Barrel Down Draft Carbs with the local VW Shop and they indicated that they had installed two sets and in each case; one carburator had to be returned due to a manufacturing problem resulting to a replacement unit being supplied.

I'd stick with the Webers or opt for Kadrons. I believe the Weber is best suited for the opposed engine but the Kadrons will give you allot of "Bang" for your buck.

Good Luck,

Jack
Thank's guy's for the input. On closer inspection they do have signs of wear and also had a few things missing so l have turned them away. l will be looking for a pair as an upgrade so if anyone has a set that need a new home, please get in touch. Once again thanks your knowledge has saved me time and money and hope one day l may be able to do the same...

Thanks
