Francine just reminded me that it was two years ago this Labour day weekend that we first picked up our older IM Speedster in Boise, Idaho. 8,500 miles on the clock then. Stock 1600 engine. 41,535 miles on the clock today. Went thru a 1915 vw style engine and now onto a nice Soob conversion. Let's see now, Boise, Salt lake City, Sundance/Park City, Grand Junction, Denver, way over East and up to Ottawa, Canada. Then with the 1915 engine...Sacramento, LA, Vegas, Hoover Dam, Oatman, Az. Kingman and the best of Route 66 East, up into the Grand Canyon, back down to 66, Standin' on the corner in Winslow, Az.

and Eastbound, too many Margaritas in Durango, Co. ..over to see a friend in Taos, NM, down to Gallup, NM and over to Amarillo, TX via one of our favs...Tucumcari, NM. then thru Oklahoma Eastbound and Fran saw Elvis in Memphis. Over and up to meet great friends en route to Carlisle and then up home. The cam and lifters let go and in went a low bucks Soob conversion in the winter of 2011/12. Down to Key West we went and back up to Carlisle. Last weekend we were down on the Coast of Maine. We're having a ton of fun with this car and have met an outstanding group of people and very supportive friends with the car. We'll likely hit Carlisle again next year and if everything is willing, we'll likely do it via the Bryce Canyon with, weather permitting, a side trip up to Deadwood. A huge thanks to all for your support and encouragement. And a very special thanks also to Henry at IM for his patience and steadfast willingness to support my somewhat unusual mods over these years.

I met and spoke with David briefly at Carlisle.  Once again, meeting someone after "talking" with them on here was quite a surprise.  David's really cool, and doesn't seem to accept any automotive challenge as being much of a big deal.  I wish I still had the skeletal fortitude to do the long-distance drives he loves, but too many car and bike accidents for me have made that impossible, now.  Still, he has a great car which gives him a lot of fun.  Next time we meet, I will make sure I have enough time to meet his wife, too!

Here's to you, David........on your way to being another "Most Interesting Man in the World" and with a car to back it up!

Oh boy, another one of those "lets get all weepy" threads......

OK here is my take....David & his wife are a couple of characters who help make this site what it is,

and totally representative of what it should be about....

not to mention the total number of miles they have covered in one of these little tubs...

I'll lift a glass of scotch to them anytime....

11 hours in a Rolls Royce would be too long for me.  I can't imagine doing it in a Speedster.  The first leg of the Carlisle trip is about 8 hours, which includes a leisurely lunch and multiple stops for gas and biology breaks.  That's more than enough for me.  When I was in my twenties I'd drive from Houston to Memphis in one day, which is 11-13 hours depending on route.  I wouldn't do it again if you paid me.

Joe and Tom, I did that Cannonball run home in 2008.  I was numb from head to toe.  10 min from my house I came to an intersection and the the light turned yellow and then of course red.  I could have stopped but I just wanted to get home so I glided right through.  Of course I made sure the intersection was clear (safety first) but the cop pulled me over anyway.  I told him that we just got home from a Speedster tour from the smokies and that my wife was feeling sick.  I was expecting a big fine and ticket and he lets us go home with a warning.  How cool was that cop.

On one hand looking forward to the drive home and another completely freaking out. I did a straight shot last summer from Hilton Head in our Honda Pilot and was pretty exhuasted. I need to be in Denver on Monday night hence the reason for the one day drive.

Marty are you going to make the trip? I made a reservation for Thursday at the 4 points in Lexington Ky. It's 400 miles from my house and not a bad way to break up the drive.
