I’ve recommended these companies for interstate transport and they’ve always come through for the people I’ve recommended them to.

www.roadrunnerautotransport.com

www.plycargroup.com or

www.reliablecarriers.com

They offer enclosed service which is the only way I would transport my speedster. Expect to pay between 1200 and $1800. Although with fuel price is going up those costs may have risen a little bit. They usually have an online quote if you want to check before you call.

I used Reliable Carriers Transport. I shipped 2 cars for me, a speedster and corvette, from California to Idaho. They were very professional, closed car carrier. Kept me notified on delivery schedule via phone. Cars arrived in top shape.  They will give you free quote on website. It will not be   Cheap due to gas prices I’m afraid. But it was worth the cost to me to have them secure and delivered safely. Cheaper carriers tend to offload the cars onto different carriers and expose them to weather and damage, so I avoid cheaper non insured or licensed carriers. They will usually give you a 10 day window in which they will pick up your car from a date you pick.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Anyone have input on registering in CA if registered as ASVE in TX?

Here's the link to the CA DMV website for registering a SPCNS vehicle in California. It MAY or MAY NOT be any easier since it is coming from another state. Bring all of your documentation and receipts that you used when you registered the vehicle in Texas. It might make things a little easier in California.

If your move isn't permanent and you intend to live in both places and you're going to move back to Texas you might not need to even register it in California. Are you going to maintain your Texas DL? An address in Texas? If it were me and I was going back in a couple years and keeping my Texas DL and an address in Texas I wouldn't bother with the registration change.

Bingo.

The bulk of the time I was traveling for work, I mostly kept my Utah DL and registrations. Despite being in Las Vegas for 10 years and NYS for 4, it was just easier to have all my registration/renewal info sent to my brother. The 8 hours I spent trying to convert my UT CDL to NYS was one of the worst mistakes I ever made.

I'd like to keep it registered in TX but our registration is tied to having had a TX inspection done. If anyone has any ideas, I'd welcome them.

Ours did as well. (They ended safety inspections 2 years ago)

The law in Utah is that to renew your registration you need to comply with the regulations of the state you’re in ie if I was in CA, there’s an out of state registration form to fill out and you send it in with whatever CA requires.
Don’t know if CA has safety inspection of not. When I was in NV, they didn’t so it wasn’t required. When I was in NY they  did so it was.
