John Steele (JPS) sells engine lid "buttons." What you do is remove the rubber gasket around your engine lid and install these buttons. While it won't cure a heating problem per se it will allow more air into the compartment so perhaps it will help. Inexpensive and easy install, too.
Best bang for the buck unfortunately requires removing the engine to cut a 3" or 4" diameter fresh air inlet vent in the firewall directly opposite the cooling fan inlet. It should be screened, can have a pickup scoop added to take the inlet low, and should have some method of closure (won't be required during cold weather).

I was able to cut a hole in the "firewall" opposite the fan today. I didn't have to remove the engine and tranny. I used a dremal tool with a cutoff wheel and was able to nibble out a nice hole.

Now I have to work up some ducting, I think I can do that without removing the engine also.
