Wow.  That is one beauty!.  I know that germany does not like old skool cars.  My cousin who is in her mid 60s was driving down the autobahn in the rain ---ok  it was the Audi cross over----at over 170 clicks.  WHen you hit a fiberglass car at AB speeds not much left of the glass car or passengers.

Only thing I would say neg about the replica is the puny engine.  FOr that kind of bread I would expect some oomph.

Hey thanks for the education Speedbucket.  I think whoever built this did not have a background in marketing.  That car, while beautiful is an orphan and most people will just scratch their heads and ask a lot of questions that i would not care to answer.  I just tell people "Do you think a normal person would be driving a $200,000 car to the hardware store on Sat.  afternoon? . It is a replica that is faster, stops better and has more protection than the original.  'Nuff said?"

There's another insane inflationary aspect to the "Real Thing"

$3k steering wheels?  1K horn buttons? $800 dollar driving lights?

Snob appeal has it's price to pay...and here's an example I've encountered:

Two years ago I purchased a new, in the box, adjustable spring plates for the VS at under a hundred dollars.

Flash back: To meet U.S. bumper height requirements all 911's/912's were imported with a higher 'stance' than their European cousins. I figured squatting it down a bit would improve the profile...912e Registry people claims it improves handling too.

The best advertised price for 911s/912e adjustable plates is over $300 !!!...They function the same way, look the same, and made the exactly the same as Beetle adjustable spring plates for one third the price...duh

Maybe, maybe not...

I have a '69 IRS rear with dual spring plates (two on each side) and the torsion bar cover is too long to get it off - the body gets in the way - so you have to elevate the rear of the car high enough to clear the bar end caps.  Might as well lift the whole thing off, since you have to remove all of the body to pan bolts anyway...

I know there are long and short torsion bar end caps, depending on the spring plates used - maybe I just have the long ones.

Ted,

If you really want to get to know Theo Hanson, start off by lending him some money- any amount will do. You can write the best contract available, it won't matter. If his excuses for not paying could be cashed in for money you would be rich! In reality, a Theo excuse and $2 still buys a cup of coffee. Next, have him sell a car or truck for you on consignment. Don't give him the title, I sure didn't, and still have it as a souvenir, along with the returned bad check. I don't have the truck, either, Theo 'forgot' who he sold it to. The DA won't bother chasing him, and he probably knows it. Knock yourself out, and good luck!
