I have no need for my heater controls beside the E brake handle but notice that they have steel rods going from them and heading aft. I do have heater control cable at the rear end that would actuate the heater box flapper valves. Can anyone please say when the heater control rods become cable and how do I get the rods out ? Do I just pull the rods up and out where the levers exit the tunnel or do they come out the back somewhere. Should I just cut the cables and pull them out forward along with the rods from beside the E brake handle ? I don't want to remove the control levers and be stuck having to leave the rods in the tunnel where they would likely rattle forever. Thanks...

The tubes that the wire control cables run in are welded front and rear so they should not rattle. If they do then the spot weld at either end has broken loose. I'd just pull the cables out and remove the knob/controls.
My car has the 'levers' removed, but the thick cables are still in the tunnel. No rattling so far as I can tell.
Can't hear them over how awesome the pipes sound.

The swaged ends are about 2"-3" long, depending on year. Just grab the end with vice grips and pull them out (assuming the end at the heater box has been released and/or simply cut off).
Do I just pull the rods up and out where the levers exit the tunnel at the e-brake lever?
Yes.

Yes.
Thanks, Lads. I just realized that what I thought were rods at the front end near the levers are in fact the attach fittings swaged onto the front end of the cables.
My eyes must be getting worse. I'll yank them tomorrow.
On the other hand, I received my new floor carpet set today. A close enough match to the original, done nicely and locally for 400 bones.

Heater control lever, Some have 2 levers others one. Whats the difference?
Left/right or fore/aft
Do you guys even HAVE heat in these cars in Hawaii??

One lever (or early turn knob) controls the heat (the flaps on the heater boxes). One controls floor/defrost selection. Speedsters use the floor vent slides for the floor/defrost control so don't need a second lever.

I may have missed it... where did you order your interior kit from? Are you pleased with the quality? Fit and finish?

Giday, Ted. I had a local carpet / upholstery shop do it up for me. We used to old carpets for patterns. I think it will be fine...the fit is good, but my standards are low compared to some. My car's patina is long gone so I've added some other embellishments to keep up the pace a bit. Nothing serious....if it works, I'm usually good to go with it.

It looks good to me!
