Type 4 oil capacity....

I've done a fruitless search for the correct volume of oil used in a standard type 4 engine....

Can someone please advise me on this.... Wolfgang??? Anyone???

i have a big external oil cooler + all the lines, etc = 5L does my setup well.

full stock setup (in case the image above doesn't show) is 3.5L (with filter). it says 3.0L without, but i measured last oil change and the filter (real german from the dealer) doesnt hold 1/2L.

what kind of oil you using, what kind of motor setup? :)

My Type IV with a Seatrab oil cooler and all the lines takes 5 1/4 quarts.

I read a post on the Spyder site by Larry Jowdy and he says for a stock Type IV it's 3.7 quarts--same as that nice chart above shows.

Thanks Mango.... You just cured a "MAJOR" headache.... Engine developed a significant oil leak after its last servicing..... Cause is now known to be an overfill..... ( I hope )

I was told the engine was a 2 liter, but believe its a 1800 bus engine.... Its running baby DELS, not much of a cam, 09 dizzy,...... Your basic vanila...

Does your type 4 have a dip stick?? Mine doesn't and I just find that unbelieveable? How am i supposed to check it???

all T4's came with dipsticks. sounds like yours was converted to upright cooling without the additional provision for the dipstick (it's a piece you can buy/make that bolts on to the lower part of the block (where the filler tube was removed from on the pancake cooling setup)
