After almost two years working on my car it almost done. I installed a 2.0 t4 motor with stock heater box and header. Tried to install the muffler and it hits the body of the car. Cutting the body is not a option, any type 4 owner have any suggestion on a exhaust system that has a heated box ?

Thanks

What stock heater boxes did you use? NONE fit properly off the shelf. You can start with 411/412 or T2 Bus ones but depending on exhaust system all will have to be shortened and the flanges welded back on. 914 are maybe 2 feet too long while others are 2-3 inches. There are several after market ones but don't believe any have provisions for heat. You're in Calif - don't need no stinking heat!
Wolf, he's in the OTHER half of Cali.
Have you tried to skin the heater and remanufacture the outer case?
Naver seen a Type II heater (but I'll go a-looking now), but if it's like most other VW sheet metal, it can probably be done.
E-mail me a closer photo of the problem, and I'll run it by the brains of the outfit here in Baltimore.
Cory - We need to rub in the east coast weather yesterday and today - 75 and up to 85 today before it dips to 40 end of week with snow!

You'll need to shorten the T2 pipes 2-3" to get clearance needed. I actually think an ANZA or EMPI type exhaust would give you more room since you could slant the connection flange and the outlet pipes. It appears that the 411/412 pipes are easier to to shorten but they don't have the heavy duty aluminum heat sink so won't give near as much heat as the T2 ones.
Ok. i've done the heater bbox cut down thing. On mine.
You will need a good fiting factory muffler to bolt to the outlets so when you cut and refit everthing and weld them back they are usally shortened 2 inches . It a bit hard to do If I had it to do again Id break down and buy the CSP pre shortened H boxes and muffler. All of it is also offered in stainless at their site, but you need over a grand to get it.But it will last forever.
Me Im leaning in favor of a gas heater bn2 converted to continuios ignition. retaining all the factory saftys and adding a static detecter to confirm Igniton and inable the heaters fuel pump.
HEI should make plenty of fuss. but it will need foil wraps on the assembly to impeade interfearance on everything outside the cover . Like the stereo in the car, is not bothered

I gotta have my tunes!
I put a '78 bus 2.0L motor in mine. Since I got the heat exchangers and Bugpack
exhaust/muff, I figured why not try to make it fit. The xtra heat (not yet plumbed) should be worthwhile. see the pics

1) The stock Bugpack
2) Cutoff flanges and reweld them upside down. Then one of the pipes needs a short ext.
3) Finished exhaust. The Bugpack muffler flange can be tweeked to tuck nicely inside the apron. The tailpipe curls down and around .
This app requires SIGNIFICANT bumper mount modification, but the result is a very clean looking rear. (more pics available)
