Well my thread seems to be closed for some or other reason.

So I thought that I'd throw a quick update on here. My engine builder has installed one of his 2.0 type 4 motors in my speedster. Very basic motor with just a cam installed and one of his upright fan shroud conversions.

This thing pulls like a steamtrain.

Having the engine balancing done this week and then my block can go together after that.

All I can say is since I've tasted a type 4. I'll never go back to a beetle motor.

hey Mango;
where did you locate that 72 plate cooler?
I have a 96 plate located just between the firewall and the seats and I am not sure whether it gets enough air to cool the oil there. I tried to put it somewhere close to the transmission but it was too large. What do you think, would my configuration work or should I change it with a 72 plate that would fit to a gap around the transmission cant tell BTW at what temp my engine works since my cylinder head temp gauge ut of order, I ordered a new one but not received it yet. thanks in advance
i welded a custom bracket to sit just above the rear drivers axle (and behind the firewall) and is angled for more air flow. there is no way i could have squeezed any larger of an oil cooler in there.

with the fan, fittings, etc, it's a real squeeze to get it in/out (think of one of those Chinese chain link puzzles)

if you are really concerned with oil/engine heat you can get a fan switch that turns on at 180 degrees as well as an oil thermostat that reroutes at 170 degrees

like these three:

Mango;
I already have the thermostat, the electric fan switch plus I have a manual control switch for the fan in case the switch does not fxn newertheless my concern is about the location of the radiator+fan. I think I should add a 72 plate just to the same position of yours or I should open some kind of scoop to redirect air towards the 96 plate. Anyways I will wait for the gauge and checkout the actual temp and move on
