Hi all, it's time for me to sell my gorgeous Chesil Speedster on to someone else who wants to feel like a film star. I've thoroughly enjoyed both the driving experience and and the refurb over last winter (best kind of 'mindfulness' for me) but I've an itch to do the same again, so it needs to go to a new owner in the UK. And thanks to all of you on here for your help and advice - you've been fantastic.
So, the details..
Factory built Chesil Speedster, built in 1998 on a 1971 IRS Beetle. Black gelcoat body with a red interior and chrome Fuchs replica alloys. Period correct details such as ivory banjo steering wheel, short shift gear lever, badges, slot-in side windows, etc.
7,300 miles.
The uprated 1904cc engine was built by Stateside Tuning, a Porsche and VW engine specialist. It has a high capacity oil sump and remote oil filter and cooler for easier servicing and better cooling. The engine is fuelled by twin Dellorto 40s (matching pair), cooled by a Porsche fan shroud, and has a custom-built full-flow stainless steel exhaust from Turbo Thomas. The engine looks and sounds fabulous.
Disc brakes front and rear.
I bought this car because it ‘had potential’. Whilst it looked gorgeous, was rust free and drove ok, it was mechanically in need of a refresh - after all, it is a 23yr old Chesil. I spent the winter going through the car from front to back, making the car safe and reliable so it could be properly enjoyed by myself and the next owner.
Over £2,500 spent in parts and tuning alone, including full carb rebuild, tuned by Airey Tuning. New stainless braided fuel lines front to rear as well as rotary fuel pump, filters, refurbed fuel tank and fuel pump safety cut-out. Disc brakes checked front and back, and new brake fluid. New rear suspension bushings. 4 wheel tracking adjustment. Steering box serviced and adjusted. Inertia reel seatbelts (original 3 point fixed seatbelts included). Gearshift coupling replaced. Hand-fabricated engine bay tinware to improve cooling. Wiring loom checked and refreshed where required. Third brake light subtly added within rear grille to help prevent rear-ending. AGM battery checked and maintained via battery conditioner. Valves checked and adjusted. Compression check good (all cylinders between 120-130psi).
Black hood (as new) sits under hood cover. Full tonneau also comes with car.
The work done is fully documented with photos. The car now runs sweetly, drives well and is reliable.
The car is MOT'd and has historic vehicle status so road tax is free.
£33,950 ono.
