Just received my new Speedster and the delivery driver pulled the parking brake handle, without turning first. Seems as if the cable system came off and my mechanic is asking for information on how this thing is routed, so he doesn't have to start pulling things apart. Any advice or diagrams?

What system do you have? Pulleys and cables, or a lever and axle hooked to the parking brake cables like this?

So... my set up is the top pic. We got the cable back on, but it seems as of it was never set up properly. We spent a few hours adjusting the cables and got it the best we could. The brake is set better than it was, but there is no way this will hold on a hill. Any chance this is just the way these things are designed?
You need to speak with the builder.
Well, it is what you get for a cable-based e-brake system.
The original Porsche 356 had a lever-based system that seems, from your experience, to be much better at applying pressure to the rear shoes/calipers.

Like Apples and Oranges, right?
I have a well engineered, nicely fabricated “umbrella” (under-dash) e-brake which I just had to have and for which I paid dearly when I bought my IM Speedster coach in 2005. The arrangement looks like it took 40 hrs to design and fabricate, which explains the amount I paid for it.
It works “adequately” as a parking brake, but it’s nowhere near as solid as the stock VW Beetle e-brake everybody hates.
You know - the one which works perfectly and costs nothing.
What you have may just be “as good as it gets”.
Thanks for the reply's. I will follow up with the builder and see what they say

Yes adequately, is the operative word you made me think of this....

@rustynails For point of reference, I have the VMC umbrella brake on my recent Speedster build. It works perfectly and doesn’t require much force to hold on a steep hill.
Greg tightened the cable last time he had my car and now it never “sticks” as one member here had a problem with. Mine had the problem rarely but it’s gone now that Greg tightened it slightly.
