I came across this listing on Samba as a GT40 Project for $5000.00 without pictures. I contacted the seller and they sent the following pics. The widow of the owner is selling this and doesn't know what she has. (I told her) It appears to be a CMC or FF Speedster with a Corvair Corsa engine. The engine alone with the 4 carb heads is worth half the asking price. I told her I would pass this along to a group that may have an interested party , Alan??

My dad was a Corvair guy. I grew up with 140s, turbos etc. and they go. He built me a rat 140 that I beat the sh%t out of. Sucker would go. Lots of potential here...
corvairs were cool, the last ones anyways, always were throwing the belt with that screwball layout.
Yep, I was heavy into the Corvairs in the 90's and early 2000's. I had a couple of fast turbocharged Corvair engines that were tricked out about as much as you can and still drive them on the street. I converted a 73 Porsche 914 to turbo Corvair power and it was an awesome daily driver. The engine was putting out 280 WHP. I had NOS steel flares I bought from Porsche America. This is one of the 3 cars I wish I would have hung onto.

What are the other two?
Disappointment and regret?
He he he.
One of the two was a custom manufactured V8 Super beetle. The car was amazing. It was built using the drive train, suspension and brakes from an 87 Corvette. The engine was replaced with a new ZZ4 400Hp crate engine. The interior featured the leather 6 way power seats from the Corvette and power windows. Heat and A/C made this car as good as a production car and could be and was driven daily rain or shine. If you search C4 Beetle you will find some online articles written about the car that were posted after I had sold it. The third was a 1966 Ford Mustang fastback that was a GT350 clone and a restomod featuring a 480HP 347 stroker engine mated to a Tremec TKO600 5 speed trans. The car was amazing with vintage air and upgraded suspension and brakes. See the pics.
Oh , I also had a crazy Corvair powered vintage Formula Atlantic open wheeled race car that I participated in Solo11 racing events for many years. The engine had special 6 runner heads and intake with a quadrajet 4 barrel carb. The car weighed 800lbs and had 250HP on tap. You do the math that is 3.2 lbs per HP. I have had well over 100 fun and interesting cars in the past 44 years and am always looking for the next to enjoy.

Love the Mustang fastback! I’m partial to 1966, I was built that year.
You are a youngster!
Yeah, Love that Mustang. The open wheeler is nice, too.
I got a '66 Mustang notchback as a HS graduation present in '68. Candy Apple Red with black interior. It lasted almost through 5 years of college and was traded out at about 200,000 miles (I was a commuter by then), still going strong.
I think the Pontiac Streamliner was the only car introduced the year I was born.

Better than the Pontiac. I should have waited until Stan's year.

As is a first gen F-body, two years late to the pony-car party Lee Iacocca started for Mr. Ford, but brand new from the General in '67.
I'ma make a small-town, white-trash, V-8 lovin' hardhead out of you yet, bud.
I tell people that I'm 12 with 45 years experience.
In six months I'll be 22 for the third time. Maybe I'll just stay there this time.
@Lane Anderson welcome to 22x3. That makes at least two of us!
That reminds me. 2022 is pronounced 2020-II. Buckle up, we may be in for a heck of a ride.
Wow that brings adrenaline to your life. Glad it worked out.

Lane, Hopefully retirement ?
There's a man " Sam" that attends our church, by himself cuts trees, cut to fireplace - stove lengths and splits the wood for those in need, Oh he's 5"4" and 80 y/o

I’m hoping to get a year or two more since Pam’s younger than me, but work may not allow that. We’ll say…
Age is mind over matter..if you don't mind it doesn't matter.
I'm 72 tomorrow and discovered in the conversation of cars and age that 1949 was an interesting automotive year of firsts. Motor trend ran its first addition and it reviewed a new sports car called the Kurtis, built on a 49 Ford frame with an aluminum body. A short Wiki search revealed this interesting tidbit .
The KSC also likely inspired Harley Earl's Project Opel at General Motors (GM), which ultimately created the production Chevrolet Corvette. The KSC was additionally described as the first "true American sports car" in the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance program.
So I guess as elders we all have lived in an interesting time in history.

What if I mind?
Regardless, I'm certainly more matter than energy.
Happy Birthday, Michael!
Corvairs were very popular when I was in HS. Good in snow. But always throwing the belt. I became very adept at putting it back on with a tire iron and someone on the ignition switch. BE CAREFULL flying tire iron alert.
My dad was a corvair guy so I had a 140 in high school. The passenger floor was rotted out so passengers had to keep their feet on the metal plate. Best one was a storm. The girlfriend at the time was all dressed up for something. She didn't keep her feet on the plate so a tidal wave came up through the floor board and soaked her. I can still see the puss on her face with the drop hanging on the end of her nose. I'm sure me busrting out didn't help the mood of the situation. Good times....
They sell spring loaded idler pulley assemblies now that all but end the thrown belt issue on Corvair engines. The fast rev and let off the throttle caused most thrown belts on engines that were adjusted properly. The design was not the best but years later it has been overcome. The vair engines have all but been replaced with the modern Subaru engine as swap for extra power. Better in every aspect, even cost.
I remember a guy in New Jersey who was racing 'Vairs and had come up with that trick idler pulley way back in the 60's. He was road course racing, but I can't remember his name. He also had a Sand Shark Dune Buggy set up for Autocross that had a 140hp 'Vair in the back that did very well til the SCCA put all the buggies in a class by themselves so you didn't run against "normal" sports cars.
