So there I was, taking a sunset cruise from Manhattan Beach South to Palos Verdes and lo and behold I looked in my rear view mirror and began seeing double. 75 feet behind me I saw a copy of my copy..a light blue Speedster zooming up on me. The driver pulled up next to me and we said hello. He said " hey, mine is a Beck".....and I replied "thats cool, mine is the first Beck they made...it is 356-001". With a bit of a perplexed look, Louie hollers back " hey, Mine is 356-002..the Second one made".
With that I said "we certainly have to pull over now and chat". So, we rounded the corner on Catalina Avenue and pulled over to the side to talk about the twins. Can you believe that, one could have been sold to someone on the other side of the planet, and here we are living within 3 miles of one another.
I certainly could see the similarities, but the differences were pretty neat as well. I have the vertical headlight grills, he has the Mesh. He has the two Fog lights, I do not have any. He has a brand new interior....and mine is a bit "Modest". It was new 10 years ago, but with the top down and the sun bleaching the carpet, it could take having at least the carpet dyed.
Louie has headrests, I don't, his tonneau cover is blue cloth, mine is red pebbled vinyl or? I can't seem to get that replaced in the same material, so some day I might switch to cloth.
We took a fun ride one behind the other for a few miles, then exchanged numbers. Hope we go riding soon, it's great to have a twin around. Hope you like the photos,
Michael Siddons
