The current black top makes the car look richer. But the black interior doesn't show off as well as a light interior. Plus the lighter color will make the interior feel a little more open.

Yeah originally I was thinking very light beige canvas top and carpet interior to match. I went to a local upholstry shop and they quoted me over $1200 just for the custom top, thats with supplying the old top as a pattern. the other shop quoted me $1500. Now on top of that I'd have to do a custom carpeted interior. Vintage sells the canvas top for $300. Huge difference.

The red interior with the merlot paint may be a little to much red.

Any other suggestions? Like door panels. Something with a little more flair than the stock door panels. I made some up but that was with light gray and black. Also the dash area. I'm still figuring out the placement of switches etc. The big hole in the middle is staying for the stereo. the middle button just below is for footwell lighting. The thing hanging down at the passenger side is the front air ride. I'll take em out of the bracket and mount the in the console for a cleaner look. I'll add rear air suspension later. I'll also have to mount the EFI controller. I originally had in the center console above the stereo. It was an eye sore. The button to the immediate left of steering wheel is day time running lights. and next to that is the power mirror switch.

Ben-

Normally, the whole "updated" thing does nothing for me-- I figure that a 356 replica is what it is, and if a guy wants a 997 he should just figure out a way to go buy one.

Your car is the exception. All I can say is "WOW!". I like everything you've done-- from the air-bags, to the turbo, to the deck-lid grille, to the Mercedes lights. I like your steering column, and your wheel. I even like the twists, and I'm not a twist fan. The whole thing just works. I have no doubt that you'll come up with something really cool for the interior.

You asked about colors, etc. Have you considered a kind of BMW M5 interior color scheme with tan leather and anthracite high-lights (upper dash tan, lower dash anthracite)? I'm not sure how it would look-- but I really like the dove gray/ black thing you've got going in the door panels, anyhow... perhaps you just get a VS black top, and carry that gray/ black thing through the interior.

Whatever you do, I'll be following the project with interest (I haven't been until now). That, my friend, is a very cool car.
"Have you considered a kind of BMW M5 interior color scheme with tan leather and anthracite high-lights . . . "

Whoa . . . . Stan has hit it EXACTLY! Modern, yet possessing all of the "new vintage" aspects that make a car with this profile work. A perfect accompaniment to what you've already done with exterior and paint.

A few visits to the junk yard for your choice of high-end gauges, e-brake grips, door handles, rear view mirrors and all those sweet little details and DAMN you'll have it all.

All done, no more suggestions necessary . . . .

HEY, what car did the lower "bin" section of those PISSA door panels come in? I REALLY love your design sense ! ! ! ! ! Gonna look exceptional!
Thanks for the comment.

The lower section of the door panel came out of a older nissan maxima. Its a little long, I took out 2-1/2" and used the 2-1/2" to epoxy to the back side. Once covered in vinyl it'll be a hidden join. I also found one from a Diamonte That would have worked to but I like this shape a little better.
I like the idea of Anthracite and tan. Sorry I had to google Anthracite.
