I have a stock fuel line setup with braided hoses but would really like to replace them with modern fuel injection hose that's rated SAE J3OR14 T2.

Unfortunately, the smallest internal diameter I can find is  1/4".  I'm worried that this will actually increase the risk of fire because it might be too large for the stock connections to the fuel line in the tunnel, fuel tank, and stock fuel pump.

I'd really appreciate any input!

Most VW fittings are 6mm (.240 in.) !/$ in. (.250in.) will work, but I would use hose clamps at each connection as cheap insurance....   Most people with larger motors 1.8L. and up  change to 5/16 in. line and fittings.... and the big boys go to 3/8 in.  Changing to larger hose requires larger tubing usually run externaly under the car...

So is there any real benefit to using modern hose instead of the traditional braided cloth-covered fuel hose?

One of my concerns is about the age and quality control for the traditional cloth-covered stuff.  I figured that there's probably a greater likelihood that the braided hose has been sitting around for quite awhile than, say, Gates Barricade hose.

Gates Barricade is not cheap and I don't want to buy it if it's not going to be any less of a potential fire hazard than the traditional stuff.
