URGENT NOTICE - MORRO BAY BANQUET

Here are some pretty disappointing numbers:

Signed up for Saturday night Banquet: 62

Paid for Saturday night Banquet: 37 or so, I think

Fact: If Dusty does not get 50 sign-ups by April 5th, he will probably cancel the Saturday Night Banquet. Folks, this is not fair to those who have paid and are looking forward to this event.

PLEASE - If you have signed up to attend the dinner and have not sent in your money, please send your check NOW. If you do not plan to attend, please update your profile so Dusty can decide what to do. I can tell you this, he will not eat the 13 spots again this year. He has committed to the room with a credit card, so please be fair, either pay up or take your name off the list.

There is a point in time that he must make this decision. Please don't make the Morro Bay event fade away. Let's get together and have some fun!

I love beef jerky and beer in the parking lot, but that is not what this is about. If you, and others, don't want to have a West Coast gathering at Morro Bay, then so be it. We'll just be idiot car guys in the parking lot. For my 2cents I would like to see all my friends in one location and talk about our cars.
But that's me. If you want to raise hell some time, come up and we will go to Harry's Bar in Pismo Beach and let it all hang out. We can't drive there, cause we will surely be arrested or hospitalized. We will need to be driven by someone else. I am not sure who that someone else would be. Carole maybe? doubt it! Come on man, loosen up!

There will always be those that latch onto a group activity for self-serving reasons without any contribution (either monetary or social). Kinda like the people who show up at a Pot-Luck dinner party without bringing a dish to share.

Dusty has volunteered considerable time and effort to coordinate this social gathering for ALL of US to get together and have fun as a car group. He has done this for the past 3 years asking nothing more than for people to honor their RSVP.

Seems simple enough, but here we are...friendly reminders for payment go unheeded, on-line posts becoming increasingly contentious. Without the nuances of person-to-person communication to temper the mood, an on-line flame war will typically ensue.

I wouldn't blame Dusty for canceling the group banquet because of his not wanting to shoulder the considerable out-of-pocket expense for non-paying participants (as he has in past events). That would be a shame because a lot of people drive long distances to attend. If the banquet has to be canceled, I suspect it would fraction the group into various cliques. If I wanted to be in a cliquish-group I would have maintained my 25-year membership in the Porsche Club of America.

Well here's an idea from a guy who knows nothing. If we have 40 and need 50 That's 10 slots to be covered by the 40, or 1/4 slot per head attending. One slot costs ~$32, so each attendee, if he thinks the gig is worth the trouble, pitches in another $8, buys Dusty a drink and thanks him profusely for his trouble. I know I would certainly do that, if it is not possible to reduce the number of diners in the contract w/ the eatery.

Or maybe the few well-intentioned miscreants will send in their money, and all will be well.

I'm just sayin' . . .

I understand about different activities during the days---rather than one activity with every single person doing the same thing.

But shouldn't the banquet be an activity for the whole group?

Call me crazy, but if we sign up for the banquet shouldn't we send the money as requested?

El Guapo nailed it in his thread, above. Have a little care for Dusty handling all the details of this event --I'm sure he's tired of having fun begging for compliance to make this go smoothly.

Dusty will post a paid-up list the first of next week. If your name is on the Attendance Poll list as signing up for the banquet and have not paid or removed your indication of attending the banquet, kindly expect a reminder email from me. I would think that if we get no response, either way, we won't put up with the same crap next year from that person.

Gerd - You don't have to do the banquet, wine tour or anything else. If you prefer to sit on a rock in the parking lot and eat jerky and drink beer, it's your time and you can do what you want. But, if you sign up for these planned activities, we kind of expect to see you there. Get it?

Book the dinner! I look forward to your post Monday. I will not be attending but will send a check to cover part of the return to Dusty if 50 people do not attend.

No one should ever be out of pocket for this kind of camaraderie.

I appreciate the support but please DO NOT SEND A CHECK if you are not coming. NO ONE should pay for the lack of consideration of others. [Besides, I have enough record keeping as it is. It might take a looong time to get a refund :-> ]

I have to jump in before this thread runs off in a bad direction.

We currently need to have ten more people sign on for the Banquet to fulfill the contract with the restaurant. I feel there are even more than that who plan to attend but have just been too busy to note the calendar is moving fast and there is only about a week left to get the reservations in. Please keep in mind that the price includes appetizer, dinner, desert and non-alcohol drinks plus it pays for the room, service, PA system, etc. All in all a pretty good deal for all of us!

I actually paid for two spots and my wife does not eat dinner, I didn't bitch and complain about it, I just paid my money, and bought a few gifts for the exchange. Frankly I could give a $hit about that restaurant, or it's food, but for a few hours on Saturday night it's a place to gather, bust a few balls, share a little time with the people we don't get to see but once a year....

We are lucky to have Dusty (and the ever LMS) to do all this planning, because I know I wouldn't be able to do it. If the majority thinks we should change venue's, then perhaps that can be discussed in a forum and a decision made for next year.
The Central coast has a lot to offer....

As a new member, car owner 12/09 and first time to Morro Bay I want to thank Dusty for making the arrangements. A lot of work goes into these things.

I am not mad at Gerd. I agree that his humor brings a lot to this site, as well as the Morro Bay event. Sometimes his humor is a little over-the-top, but most funny guys are that way. I am using him to get people to think about the situation. I am not as funny as Gerd, so my statements ring like I am mad at him. I am really talking through him to get at the deadbeats. You guys know who you are.

Dale, no worries, the great thing about this event and the group, is the lack of drama...The Drama is on the site...keeps it interesting...

For the record...Gerd is a good friend and has always totally supported this club. I also know for a fact that he is generous (to a fault) with his time and money to those less fortunate!
