While the engine is only 1600cc, the car is pretty new even though I like Dales car this is a better deal in my books.
Who makes the oil filler cap ?

They make unbelievably beautiful cars. These things are works of art. No wonder they are so expensive but this one is very reasonable.
Love the color combo, always love Henry's seats.
But for an owner that "did not believe in bells and whistles just nice simple manual period correct technology" the radio treatment is awful and the heat venting hose needs to be tucked out of sight in my opinion; small issues.
Someone's gonna get a beautiful car.

I beg to differ. Dales old car is a much better value with all the original "P" parts and additional ad on's...
I think you are right with the math.... I guess if you want the steering wheel and overiders and the fuchs ... they command quite a bit of cash by themselves.
The additional add ons are worth money, but at 15 years old, you might need more sorting than you can see in pictures... ie: a partial/full repaint, and the leather may be in need of some help and by the time you sort it all out your in to a few, or many thousands. I guess that presupposes your a prefectionist like me
Sounds like a lot. But when you consider a new air cooled D starts at $77,440, maybe its not that high.
I can't stand it any longer. Why go to so much work to build these beautiful cars and make them period correct only to stick 8 slot Karman Ghia wheels that scream replica. or kit cat. Oh boy I've done it now. And 4..3..2..1

Dale had the engine freshened up as well as the paint not long before he sold it. The interior is vinyl. The car is worth every penny the seller is asking for.

Yes I agree. Bought my used IM with the 4 bolt Mangels. Replaced them with Beck 10 slot 4 bolt 356 C reproduction wheels. I'm not really into period correct but I do think the 8 slot wheels scream vw replica.

Real men probably also run aluminum alloy. But hey I'm cheap. Changing to 5 x130 wheels would be expensive and certainly would not be period correct. I would love to change to 5 x 205 (wide five) but unfortunately wide five will only work with front VW torsion suspension. Wide 5 will not work on my 914 front suspension or with 911 front suspension. I'm just going to run my pedestrian steel 4 bolt 356 C repos and be happy...for now.

Yes Tom, but the gloves have to be Italian.
Carey Hines made some 10-slot 4x130 wheels for a while. I don't know if he still has them available or not. They use the flat hubcaps with the emblem in the center and are dead ringers for the 356C wheels.

Who the heck counts wheel slots in replicas...?
Guess I'd better not show you a picture of my IM.
Who the heck counts wheel slots in replicas...?
Porsche people trying to figure out if its a replica. I just want to keep them confused.
You guys buy replica wheels!?... Well this just got awkward.
This is a really nice IM and I could live with the vinyl interior, but I couldn't live with that 1600 engine and 4.12 R&P.
Within 6 months I'd probably be looking for a bigger engine and a 3.44 R&P swap.
Count slots ? Most replicas have the tunnel E brake duh !
WHAT!? You guys have TUNNEL MOUNTED e-brakes?! It's like I don't even know who I'm virtually hanging out with. You guys are savages.
Honestly I was getting ready to powder coat my 8 slot mangels black when I ran into Carey at Carlisle a couple of years back and they were having a sale on the 10 slot 4 bolt wheels. It was too good to pass up.
And by the way, I have an under dash e-brake.
I have an under dash e-brake as well but I do find the center mounted ones to be more practical.
Where did you guys get the parts to do under the dash e-brakes? Is it a difficult job to do?
You'd have to talk to Henry. I bought used but I'm sure its not a cheap option.
Phil is right Henry installed it in both our cars and it is a lot of work and cost is up there.

Yes, I still have a few sets left of the 10 hole 4 lug wheels.
For you anal got to have 10 slot wheel guys (like me). I can tell you that they are well made. Not that I've ever cruised at over 100mph. But if I ever did they would be smooth as glass.

Funny thing, that. I paid for it as well, and now couldn't care less. It's cool, but the lever brake works better.
Yup.
All those little thingy parts from Stoddard, means $$$$.

Henry makes most of them (bell-crank, etc.). Still spendy.
The tunnel brake is the best. It's great for sliding around corners...
Bob you really don't do that, do you ?
Only in winter...
I used to do it a lot in my old bugeye sprite. And the bald tires helped a lot.
Late Jan into Feb thick ice on Greenwood Lake NY, '63 Beetle huge figure 8's..I believe it was the classic line: " Hold My Beer and Watch This " !
I wonder if my grandson will ever have the chance to do something such as that. Can self-driving cars do figure eights?
Bob;
Only if you give him the password to the control console.
