I have a Speedster (probably built in the mid-80's) that I bought at auction several years ago. Very nice correct car but have no idea who the original builder was. Is there a place I can go to ID the builder using the vin number?

John, the seats and dash are Vintage Speedters, add a engine bay pic will help too....looks like a VS.
John, I really like the banjo wheel and cream colored dash combo. Very nice with all the matching knobs etc. Your car looks a lot like mine, which I believe to be a '93 VS. I'll probably never know for sure. Enjoy!

The car had a Nardi wheel when I got it but I always liked the banjo wheels better so I had it switched. This year I has a Porsche insignia replacement put in the center ring.
I also didn't like the original exhaust system because it had too many bends and hung way below the frame. Had that replaced a few years ago.
I don't particularly like VW engine sound and would like something a little more mellow.
The only problem I've ever consistently had with the car is 1st gear and reverse when the car is cold. It's very difficult to to move through the gate and into these gears especially. But when the car warms up the problem goes away.
Any thoughts?

"VW Engine sound" Interesting. My '07 VS with a 1500 cc engine sounds absolutely nothing like a VW engine. It has a slight growl and none of that VW sound. maybe your car has a stock engine right out of a VW in it. That would make it sound like a VW engine because that's what it IS! ---Jack
An original speedster seat was a bucket with 2 slats in the back to try and cool you off. You can get many types of exhaust systems with many different sounds. I have a $90.00 Monza that ROARS!
There are plenty of exhausts that provide a deeper, more mellow sound. A lot of us here have (and love) the A-1 Sidewinder system, although it's not cheap. If you have a larger engine, it's a great system because it is a tuned, merged header, and large Magnaflow muffler that helps performance as well as sound.
I know why it sounds like a VW. I was just looking for suggestions on how to mask it.
