I am working on a 1976 bug. The customer brings me a muffler, which he needs installed. I try to put the thing on, and realize that it doesn't fit. I look up the engine number and find that its a 1965 1200 c.c mexican motor. I can't seem to find any thing that will bolt on. Does anyone have any ideas?

The 1200, or 40hp, as Ted said, is different than the 1300/1500/1600 platform; among other things, it's a little narrower and iIrc the heater boxes are a different as well. Whether it's stock or a header/aftermarket, look for a 40 horse specific exhaust. I'm guessing your customer bought an exhaust for a '76 bug?
