On a new engine, I usually check the valve adjustment between 500 and 1000 miles unless they are excessively noisy.
If the engine has chromoly steel pushrods and the lash was set at Zero on a stone cold engine I usually check the valves at 4 to 5 thousand miles after the initial adjustment. If you have aluminum pushrods then check about every 3,000 or 3,500 miles. Aluminum pushrods expand quicker than steel rods so the gas is usually .004 for the intake and .006 for the exhaust.
Check the knowledge section #206 for a detailed explanation on how to adjust your valves that I wrote about 5 or 6 years ago.
