What is the correct valve adjustment gap on a VW motor, i've heard .006 both intake and exhaust. Others will say .006 exhaust and .004 on intake. Some people say in depends on the year of the motor? Now i'm just more confused on what this rather simple task, should be ?
The original owner said the motor is a 1675, well i've never heard of a 1675. I think it's more like a 1641. it's definitely a 16 something with dual carbs.

I set my intake and exhaust at .006
Yup, Ron's got it. Per the Bentley manual (VW's "Official Service Manual") for a stock, 1600-ish engine, set them at .006" COLD for both intake and exhaust.
I would follow Larry Jowdy's method for setting TDC for each cylinder (it's on this site somewhere!)

Some 36 and 40 hp motors had different valve adjustment specs, but all 1500 and 1600 based motors (as Ron and Gordon said) use .006" cold as the spec. This is with aluminum pushrods; if your motor has chrome moly then set them to "loose" zero.

Everything everybody else says but make sure the engine is stone cold. My Porsche mechanic used have me drop the car off in the late afternoon, he would pull the car into his garage and then set the valves first thing the next morning.
