Marty,

I've got "58 TUB" in Illinois antique plates. I'm sure there are lots of good combinations available if you go to a specialty plate (the "Prevent Violence" plates, et al).

BTW: If you want to legally register your car in Illinois (a 19XX VW registration isn't legal), shoot me an e-mail, and I'll point you to the appropriate page on the Illinois Sec. of State's website that'll walk you through the process, and give you the name of the one and only women in Springfield that knows how to do this. It's really easy from that point, and you can legally register your car as a 1957 Vintage Porsche Replica.

I wish you well.
And you think your vanity tag is expensive?
The buyer probably got the funds from the petty cash jar. ~Alan

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - A license plate with nothing but the number "1" on it went for a record $14 million at a charity auction Saturday.

Saeed Khouri, a member of a wealthy Abu Dhabi family, wouldn't say how many automobiles he owned or which of them might carry the record-breaking single-digit plate.

"I bought it because it's the best number," said Khouri, whose family made its fortune in real estate. "I bought it because I want to be the best in the world."

Re: the # 1 lic. plate, the chinese, as you amy know, are very superstitious wrt numbers and the number 8 is especially revered to bring good luck. It is the only number with perfect symmetry, I guess. Double 8's brings twice as much luck I guess, and so is even more sought after. three 8s is less enticing because the number of 8s is odd. Four 8s is prolifigate, I guess, and could lead to too much luck (joss). Anyway, I heard that the double 8 plate in Hong Kong once went for several million bucks. Not sure if that was a charity event or not, but the sale of plates w/ 8s involved has been going on there for years.
