The original gauges were slightly smaller, so nothing will "plug and play".

Don't despair, however- if you send your gauge to North Hollywood Speedometer, they can do anything you want (recalibrate from KPH to MPH, raise or lower your red-line or top speed, give you numbers for the oil temperature gauge, etc.

I had my "combi" gauge redone last winter- I eliminated the worthless gas gauge, and had them put in an oil pressure gauge, and had the temperature gauge redone with numbers. I had them put in a yellow light for low fuel, and screen on icons for all the idiot lights. It's extremely cool, and works great.

I have a question Does North Hollywood offer white face dial kits for Vw vdo faces?. I want to white face my supers instument cluster and go Blue superbrite LEDs on it and the consol alredy white clock. My 72 super has a Art deco look That I want exploit.

Stan I realy like the numbering on that gauge. I need to let them redo my Ds instruments the gas gauge and odometer are not right still and Kurt replaced them with the new style ones i do like the green backlighting on them Id hate to lose that feature.
I'm with TC on that one, Stan.
Great job; I assume you just told them what you wanted and then made the leads come from wherever they needed to?
My fuel indicator is an AutoMeter gauge and sending unit combo. The gauge was fine out of the box, but the sender had a float problem for a while. A fix like the low-fuel light you came up with would be a cool addition.
Can you put something in Knowledge about how to do that?
Well their goes christmas. But i realy like gauges that actual show temps and presures . I wonder how accurate they are. I realy want that on the D My speedo works but its not counting out the miles right Thats the China Influince showing ,,cheap junk.

I guess when its real cold Out I'll pull them and send them off and have them include new senders they can calbrate to.

I have spare vw speedos that I can re do I need to call and get the white face kit and do that myself its a simple enougth to dismanle and clea.

I've had to restore a couple of them over the years

Thanks Guys I apreciate the help and insite
Thanks gentlemen.

The redo of the gauge was handled through Henry at Intermeccanica. I was talking with him about a revised fuel sender that would more accurately track the fuel level, when I was struck with the idea for just redoing the gauge with a yellow light ("pre-A" Intermeccanicas have a different gauge set-up that uses a low fuel light). Henry modified a stock fuel sender to have the wiper hit the winding at about the 2 gal mark on my 13 gal tank, and took care of communicating to North Hollywood Speedometer what I was after. A month later, my gauge showed up at the door. It may have been the easiest and best thing I ever did.

As far as the wiring- when the car was built, I requested extra leads be run from the engine bay to under the dash. I used one of these for the pressure gauge. Figuring out the connections is easy, if you understand wiring at all- you'll have no problem, Cory.

It wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny.
Ok Hollywood speedometer and instrument wanted $200+ just for the 72 Vw speedo and gas gauge flip from white on black to black on white. and I was just sending the faces..

Just to darn much!! (HOWEVER)

Whiteface gauges.net Has a kit over lay for a 72 super beetle Complete for around $20 dollars and you put it on yourself.. and you can even get led strip lighting in any color you want.

Thats no big deal to do.. I dismantled a old unit in 5 minute this evening and it would only take a hr TOPPS to put it back together. and you,d realy be taking your time. goofin off to do that.

I think I might just contact Westashas before North Hollywood they do aviaction instruments of the highest calaber for less Id be willing to bet.
I'll let ya know what i find out.. But I am gonna also ask W.F.G if they offer 356 overlays kits..
