VeeBird on SAMBA $4k in GA

Needs engine tins. Hey, at least the tunnel mounted hand brake lever is hidden by the seats so no one will look at it and say, "Is this a VeeBird?"  Bwaaahaaa

The Jalopnik article mentions the cooling tins - but there are no vent grills on the engine lid so guess that's how it gets any air.  Just missing the Rear Continental tire mount.

In one of his writings Gene Berg tells the story meeting a young man with a kit car that kept burning up engines (3 or 4?). None had lasted more than about 4,000 miles and the engine compartment had no air intake whatsoever.

As much as I hate to admit it, Ray is right. It really does scream for a LS based water cooled motor.

Those things are so poorly designed and out of proportion,  just look up the word "junk: in Websters. One had better have a of of fabrication skills and go into it knowing it's a money pit, all you'll end up with is a V-Turd. Find a Yugo to resto Mod you'll be 5 % happier.

I’ve never had first hand experience, but I have shared a bottle with those that have tried.  My advice would be to run, run far away.

OK maybe I was a bit harsh.......Do a search for photos of completed VBirds they are not close to the original styling. Early on I dabbled in MGTD replica's  Gazelle's ,  Fraser Nash's , Jaguar SS100 replica's, some good but most were horrible. I once bought a TD body that was sitting on saw horses "completely assembled" with ........dry wall screws.

I dunno, Alan. I think if you have experience with a marquee and you know it's a gigantic headache, you should let people know.  Arguably you have the most experience with a wide range of cast off projects.  I was just ribbing you.

I still recall Alan's build chronicle of a Street Beast's factory built chassis Speedster.  One would think that was the way to go over hacking a VW pan.  Turns out none of holes were in the right place for proper alignment.

As we know the CMC  ...FF Speedster required fabrication to make it a long lasting safe ride. The Street Beast's speedster was a true rolling shop of horrors that required re-engineering and a lot of fabrication.  I enjoyed the SB challenges ( I did three)  pleased with the results, others may very well have set a match to the whole project.  My late father ,a Tool and Die Maker played a role in me learning how to run machinery and fabrication.  I was lucky to have a good friend Randy in Pennsylvania  that had a huge old school machine shop ( No CNC )  where I knew 2/3's of the machinery, when I was stumped Randy would come up with the right solution. Then there is the other Randy, my body and paint artist who is a one man band restoration guy that knows fiberglass...we have seen his work dozens of times.  I was lucky to have the right knowledgeable resources just down the road .  

Listen , I know the proportions are off , I know that they are not the best built kits . BUT I do know you don't see them every day , and I love to build V Dubs that no one else does I have owned and built every type of VW made in the last 50 years and before me my Dad did the same . This car has the potential to be another JAW DROPPER ! HELL I fixed GK's nightmare !!! Waiting to hear back from the seller , as I type this !  YES PINK ! Slammed , Air Ride !  For the wife !

I built a STREET BEAST 34 Vicky for a guy 20 years ago ,  Body was distorted , I guess from curing in the Miami sun.  There's a reason they went out of business .

Seller built this trike and even he said the V bird was too much ! Guy was nice enough , even offered her to me for 3 grand BUT, Sorry guys , my brain ruled over my passion for a change ! Didn't buy , even though I wanted to build her . Just not into re-doing someone's  work again. Frame consisted of stock tunnel and the rest was 1x2 square tubing for the perimeter , I would have to rebuild , re-weld everything , AGAIN !  , Taking the money and dumping it in my 40 Ford truck,

NOT MUCH right now ! Pulled the cab and all the sheet metal , sold the frame to a friend so he could use the Trans Am sub frame I a 51 Plymouth 2 door I also sold him , Cab has been waiting for a 5 inch chop

A 5-inch chop don't cost much though, right? What do two or three cut-off wheels cost?

I don't see it listed on SAMBA any more.  There is nothing wrong with a 1x2 steel perimeter frame.  I went that way with my Dolphine T-Mod beach cruiser over thin aftermarket VW pan tin halfs.  The flow is polished diamond plate aluminum - left bare and exposed.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with it if you know who did the welding ! Like I said earlier in this post , " I'm tired of re-doing others work " just to make sure it's right. I would rather start from scratch from here on out !
