I have dual Weber 44 IDFs running on a 2367 cc type IV. My current setup has dual 7 inch by 3 inch oval air cleaners and no velocity stacks. I have the 2 1/2 inch velocity stacks that came with the carbs. I have recently made an oval aluminum spacer to raise the entire air cleaner about 1 1/4 inches (max due to hood clearance) so I can add the velocity stacks inside the air cleaners. I anticipate a minimum of 1 1/2 inch clearance above the velocity stacks for proper breathing.

My problem is: The four studs that secure the top plate to the carb are too short. They are currently about 1 5/8 long. The top nut (not even a lock not) is flush with the top of the stud. There is no accommodation for even the thin mounting base of the velocity tack.

My question is: Are longer studs available? Something at least 1 7/8 inch?

My Chilton's Weber Manual does not identify them, other than "stud". It would be nice to add a nylon type lock nut, or at least a locking washer. "Redline Weber" says no longer studs are available. Anyone else have a source of parts? Anything wrong with using a straight through bolt? Thank you.

David:

Put double nuts on a stud, tighten the nuts together and spin the stud out. Take it to a local auto parts store (one of those used by local mechanics, not an Autozone) and see if they have others like it but to the dimension you need (or go to a good local mechanic with the same question). If not, ask if they know who might have one and go there. OR: do the yellow pages thing for "Fasteners" but you'll have to know the size, whether it's English or Metric and the thread count per inch before you call them. Usually there's someone in just about every area that deals with fasteners of all types and should have what you need in stock - find that place and you're golden.

Those studs are a common item and come in many, many lengths, so this shouldn't be a big deal quest.

Good luck........gn
