In a recent post under the heading Southern California Ride the "Exclusively Porsche" Ventura Car Show was mentioned as a destination for a Southern California ride.

For those who are interested visit the website www.german-autofest.com This year the theme is the 50th Anniversary of the Carrera. I attended last year and it was really a good show There were a number of great looking early Porsches on display. And there were lots of vendors offering restoration parts and other Speedster stuff.

Last year there was mass parking for attendees. It was not a well guarded parking lot. I will try to contact the show to find out what kind of arrangements can be made for more secure parking for our replicas. I believe the "People's Choice Concourse" may be open to replicas.

Also, the caravan hook-up point of a filling station at White Oak Avenue in Encino (near the 101 Freeway) was mentioned. In a seperate post, on this string, I'll provide more details on this location.

West San Fernando Valley Meet-up, for the Caravan to the Ventura Fairgrounds Show

White Oak Avenue (off the 101 Freeway)is the fourth off-ramp North of the intersection of the 405 Freeway and the 101 Freeway. (As you progess North on the 101 it goes: Haskell Ave.,Hayvenhurst Avenue, Balboa Blvd., White Oak Avenue). At the bottom of the White Oak Avenue off-ramp turn right and prepare immediately to get in the left hand turn lane. There is a Mobil Gas Station on the North-West corner of White Oak Avenue and Burbank Blvd (just a few feet north and across the street from the off-ramp). You may have to turn left off of White Oak onto Burbank Blvd. then enter on that side of the gas station. There is a lot of traffic in this area, be careful and patient. There is a 7-11 next to the station so we can fill our tanks and satisfy our goumet desires while we group-up. The North bound on-ramp (to Ventura) is right next to the Mobil Station. Travel to the fairground from here should take about 50 minutes.

The exhibit halls open at 9:00 AM both days. What time is good for the meet-up?
Great eye-candy today. Ran into Bill George, Paul Harford, John Leader and Dale Bates. Our man Paul Harford took top "Speedster" honors in the replica group!

Forgot the digital, so sorry for the cell phone shots, I'm sure Leader will post some hi-rez stuff next week.

Sorry, Bill, I neglected to grab a shot of your beauty in the hanger. Did you wind up with any offers??

Congratulations to Paul Harford on his trophy! Vince, we hope you and the wife are recovering rapidly from whatever took you down, we were wondering where you were.

The "plastic cars" were well represented in the People's Choice Concourse competition by John Leader, Dale Bates and Paul Harford (see photo below). There were several other replicas of Speedster's and Spyders that weren't entered the competition but which got the attention of attendees. And, "Automotive Legends" from Malibu, CA had a couple of very nice Vintage Speedsters on display, and for sale, in one of the vendor display barns. Automotive Legends was in the same location Beck had their Spyder's last year.

To answer your question Mike McSween, I got a few offers but my Speedster is not for sale. It was displayed as a sample. Tom McBurnie entered the show to make a representation of his products to those who might be interested. His assigned space was in the "FOR SALE BARN". Tom wanted representative samples of Thunder Ranch's Speedster build, his Spyder build and his RSK build; about a week before the show I volunteered to put my car on display with the two cars he brought up from El Cajon.

I think we can all say the replica owners were treated well by the folks with real Porsches, only a small amount of muttering (about "plastic" and VW's) could be heard occasionally. Judging by the conversations I had with owners of collector cars, I think many of them are beginning to become interested in adding a replica to the "stable" so they have something they feel comfortable driving more often. I understand well restored Speedster's have sold at auction recently for around 100K.
I attended the "Porsche Ventura Car Show on 9/10/05"! Congradulation to all who entered there Porsches! Being from Hawaii I have never seen so many Porsches! I even met Dale and his Speedster that is so famous being on the Cover of "Kit Car" magazine! I had fun!

I noticed driving around Beverly Hills, I saw way many more unreal newer, more exotic, super expensive Porsches cruising around than in the show.

aloha, David
