Here's a short video of our recent cruise up Palomar Mountain and visit to the Observatory. Morning rendezvous with Glenn Carr, Wil 'Billyfeet', Chris 'Danger' & Rebecca, Larry B.

I didn't spend a lot of time with fancy editing so the first half of the video is various clips of our group climbing the South Grade Road to the 5,570 ft summit. Only sound effects are engine & wind noise. The camera also picked up the noise of my oil cooler auxiliary fan (didn't realize this 'til afterward). Video speed is accelerated for brevity.

Second half of video is a more casual drive to the observatory and then down to Lake Henshaw on the valley floor. Cruising music added..

The reality is that this kind of video (watching someone driving a car) is probably boring to most people, but not for us car guys (especially SOCers). Glad that you guys enjoyed it!

Herbert - climbing that grade to 5,000+ ft is a work-out for my 1835. So 2nd and 3rd are my primary gears driving up twisty mountain roads.

Scott - I have a lot of fun with the GoPro and I use iMovie HD on my MacBook. It has a lot of video edit features including variable 'Fast/Slow/Reverse'.

Bob - I have a rather diverse music palette and try to use off-beat music on my videos to add to its uniqueness. The sound track is 'Pencil Full of Lead' by Paolo Nutini.

Peace - Out!
Sludge - my driving technique is an old habit from racing/driving across the dunes or desert in off-road vehicles that had major bump-steer (sand-rail dune buggies, FJ-40 Landcruiser).

It didn't take me long to realize that looping my thumbs around the steering wheel or arm-crossover steering would result in either my thumbs being ripped off or breaking my arms at the elbows.
According to several racer's biographies, hands at 3 and 9 and crossing your arms to turn is the "European" driving method born of road racing courses in very light cars and relatively little horspower. Shuffle turning is the American method, born of circle track racing in relatively heavy, high horsepower vehicles.
Jim, Jim,

Loved your video! Now, you need to come South this fall!!! Twisting and turning roads are always on hand. I'll be more than glad to take you on a tour were I guarantee you will twist your frame and burn your nose on your exhaust pipe. Come on down...I'll put you up at my place, but videos are a requirement. Treat you to blockade clear whiskey, better than Oban!
