Todd---the vin number on a VS is at the same place as a VW bug---behind and between the seats you will see a flap as part of the carpet. Just lift that flap and VOILA!
You can research that vin number to see the year of mfg of the donor car.

Actually know the vin number but when i take it to dmv they will need to see it! Thanks!!!
You need to ensure one stamped in tunnel matches what you believe it to be - could be embarrassing if not!
I bought my 2008 VS from a dealer here in San Luis Obispo that had the VIN. Not satisfied, on a trip to Long Beach, I went to Vintage Speedsters to see if I could find information about the origin of my car. VS keeps handwritten records that are not keyed to the VIN. More frustrating, they couldn't find the VIN for my speedster, saying that it may have been sold to someone (dealer) in the central coast. Result? Nada.
